The Visitor Center
The Visitor Center is located inside the office building of the Pierre Auger Observatory in Malargüe, Argentina. The main purpose of the visitor center is to introduce the Observatory and its physics to the general public. Although the visitor center is mostly visited by local schools, many tourists also find their way and learn more about the Observatory.
If you can't make it to Malargüe you may want to take a virtual tour of our Visitor Center.
The Visitor Center opened its doors to the general public in 2001, and serves on average 7000 visitors annually. In February of 2016, the total number of visitors surpassed the 100,000 mark. In 2015 the focal point of the visitor center moved from giving presentations on the Observatory to a more interactive series of exhibits which enables us to serve visitors arriving at almost all hours of the day.
The visits include the beautiful garden of the office building which houses several pieces of art as well as examples of several types of detectors which are used in the Pierre Auger Observatory.
