February 11: International Day of Women and Girls in Science
The Pierre Auger Observatory would like to celebrate the work of women scientists in the International Collaboration and to reinforce its commitment to involving women science educators and girls and young women curious about the natural world in the challenge of scientific work. This year we received a special greeting from one of the world's most famous astronomers, Jocelyn Bell:
Greetings from Oxford, in the United Kingdom (two small islands off the coast of Europe).
I am an astronomer – I study stars and galaxies – and I know of the big 'Pierre Auger Observatory' which is near your home. That Observatory is working well and has recently made an important discovery, which I read about with excitement! I hope some of you, girls as well as boys, like science and maybe will become scientists when you grow up. The world needs good scientists. With all best wishes,
Jocelyn Bell Burnell"
