Zapparrata wins Belgian Physics Society Prize

2021 07 ICRC Mayotte Best TalkWe congratulate our colleague Orazio Zapparrata, Ph.D. student in the group of prof. Ioana Maris, who has been awarded for the best oral presentation given by a young scientist at the annual General Scientific meeting of the Belgian Physics Society (BPS).

The young scientist contest is a tradition at the annual BPS meeting. Ph.D. students as well as young post-doctoral researchers with no more than 3 years of professional experience after their Ph.D. defense are allowed to participate in the contest. The presentation has to focus on the own scientific work of the candidate.

The prize for the best oral contribution was awarded in the framework of a special, plenary competition, during the yearly BPS Scientific Meeting organized this year in Tabloo (Dessel), on Wednesday May 18th, 2022. A jury selected the winner according to the scientific value of their work, their oral skills, and their technical and pedagogical quality.

Orazio Zapparrata was awarded this prize for his work on the time dependent simulation of the Pierre Auger Observatory to study the origin of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays using deep learning.
